Apple Class Action Settlement

Apple has recently settled a 15-million-dollar class action lawsuit for supposedly breaching their iCloud terms and conditions agreement.

They are charged with storing iCloud user data on third-party servers including Amazon, Google and Microsoft.

Apple denies the allegations but has agreed to settle the lawsuit anyway.

You would be eligible for a refund if you paid for an iCloud subscription between September 16, 2015 and January 31, 2016 and the mailing address associated with your account is in the United States.

You must also be using the same email address you used at that time since your refund notification from Apple will be sent to that address.

The refund amount depends on how much you paid for storage during that time. Apple offers different rates based on the amount of storage you purchase. People that used the free storage option are not included.

At this point it is unclear how many subscribers will be paid but the more subscribers that are involved in the suit the lower the refund will be.

If you still have an active iCloud account, the refund should be automatically deposited into the account used for the purchase. If you no longer have an active account, you should receive a check in the mail.

Be on the lookout for spammers and hackers to take advantage of this settlement. They will target people with phishing email messages that appear to be coming from Apple and related to the settlement. Anytime a big news story like this break’s criminals use it to scam people.
