Don't use public charging stations

The FBI is warning people not to use public charging stations because hackers have found a way to introduce malware through the stations.

Criminals have figured out ways to use public USB ports to infect connected devices with monitoring software and other malware. Once a criminal has access to a device, they can steal personal and financial information.

Public charging stations can be found in places like airports, hotels, shopping centers, restaurants, gyms, and other public venues.

How to Stay Safe

Never plug your phone or other device into a public charging station.

Fully charge your phone before leaving home.

Carry a spare charger and plug it into an electrical outlet instead.

Use a charger in your car when you are away from home.

Purchase a power bank to use when you are out.

If traveling with a laptop use it to charge your phone.

Public charging stations are not worth the risk.
